- Vehicle Liability Insurance - is intended to provide coverage for the policy holder when they are at fault in an accident. No one can predict the type of accident in which you may be involved. We offer and recommend to our clients that they choose liability coverage amounts which are greater than the State minimum specified amount. That amount is 30/60/25. It translates on a per occurrence basis as $30,000 maximum Bodily Injury per person, $60,000 maximum Bodily Injury coverage for all persons involved, and $25,000 property damage coverage.
- Uninsured Motorist Coverage – This coverage can pay your expenses from an accident caused by an uninsured motorist or a motorist who did not have enough insurance to cover all the damage they have caused, up to your policy’s dollar limits. Also pays for accidents caused by a hit-and-run driver if you promptly reported the accident to police. It can pay for bodily injury to persons in your vehicle involved in they type accident and it can pay for damage to your vehicle. It is estimated there are approximately 20% of the vehicles in are uninsured. And this is a state where it is mandatory to purchase auto insurance in order to drive on the road, get your driver’s license, registration, and inspection sticker!!
- Comprehensive Coverage –This coverage is intended to pay the cost of damages for repairing your car if it is stolen or damaged by fire, vandalism, hail, or an event other than a collision; or the actual cash value of the vehicle if it is a total loss. Comprehensive coverage also pays for a rental car or other temporary transportation if your car is stolen. Your policy won’t pay for an auto theft unless you report it to police. Payment is limited to your car’s actual cash value, minus your deductible.
- Collision Insurance – This coverage is intended to cover the cost of repairing or replacing your car after an accident. You will only receive the amount of your car’s actual cash value, minus your deductible. Actual cash value is the market value of a car like yours without the damages incurred for that claim.
- Medical Payments – This coverage is for your medical and funeral bills resulting from accidents, including an accident involving a pedestrian or bicyclist. It covers you, your family members, and passengers in your car, regardless of who caused the accident.
- PIP- Personal Injury Protection--Same as medical payments coverage, plus 80 percent of lost income and the cost of hiring a caregiver for an injured person. It covers you, your family members, and passengers in your car, regardless of who caused the accident. An insurance company must offer you $2,500 in PIP, but you can buy more. If you don’t want PIP, you must reject it in writing.
- Gap insurance - Insurance that pays the difference between the actual cash value of a vehicle and the amount still to be paid on the loan. Some gap policies may also cover the amount of the deductible. Some companies offer this coverage, some do not. You should always inquire about the cost of Gap Insurance to determine if that coverage is right for you.
- Rental Car Reimbursement - A set daily amount for a rental car if your car is being repaired as the result of a covered accident. Available amounts are $20.00, $25.00, $30.00, and $35.00 per day. When determining the amount of coverage you need, remember rental care agencies have to charge tax, and those in Harris County must charge the Metro tax as well.
- Towing (Roadside Assistance) - Towing charges when your car can’t be driven. Also pays labor charges, such as changing a tire on the side of the street.
- Only the State minimum liability coverage is required by law. Comprehensive (OTC) and Collision may be required by a finance company. The rest of these coverages are optional. And some of these coverage's may overlap other coverage you may have through your Medical insurance or elsewhere.
